BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) — A National Park Service official says divers are recovering the body of a 17-year-old from North Las Vegas who disappeared while swimming with cliff-jumping friends at a cove at the Lake Mohave reservoir.
Park Service spokeswoman Christie Vanover says it appears the teen is the third person to die this year while cliff-jumping at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Witnesses told park rangers he disappeared beneath the surface about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday while swimming with a group of friends about 50 yards from Placer Cove to Morning Star Cove.
The area is near Nelson’s Landing, about 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas.
The Clark County coroner is expected to confirm the teen’s identity and determine a cause of death.
