Study: Phoenix ranks in bottom half for ‘green buildings’

PHOENIX –A recent study ranked Phoenix 18 out of 30 major markets in CBRE’s annual Green Building Index, according to the Real Estate Daily News.

Despite the weak performance, Phoenix has shown improvement, moving up three positions from last year and increasing the amount of green office space from 28 percent to 31.4 percent.

Local experts said it was too early to tell if green buildings were becoming a trend in metro Phoenix, but many of the new office buildings and ones under construction were or will be considered green.

Collier Center Tower, at Second and Washington streets in Phoenix, was named as a prime example of a green building, receiving the Energy Star, the standard for energy efficiency, seven times.

Minneapolis, San Francisco and Chicago nabbed the top three spots for green office markets in the nation.
