Suburban Phoenix police chief Tom Ryff to step down

PHOENIX — After four decades with the department, Tempe Police Chief Tom Ryff will be stepping down.
Ryff became chief in 2006, but has been with the force for 36 years. He announced his retirement Tuesday.
According to the Tempe native’s official biography:
Chief Ryff is an active member and/or supporter of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police, Latino Peace Officers Association, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Arizona Black Law Enforcement Employees, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Council on American-Islamic Relations, and Los Vecinos Community Action Group.
Ryff’s last day will be Dec. 1.
