She Said: Wake up with Paquime and a breakfast burrito

I was headed to the Sunnyslope area for some goodies at Karl’s Bakery when a friend of mine commented that Paquime, a newer Mexican street food restaurant, was in the same center as Karl’s.
Starving after a morning workout, I had a breakfast burrito weighing heavily on my mind.
The place is immaculate as you walk in the door. New, organized and clean but somehow still giving a warm and friendly vibe. Little touches — such as the baked goods on display and the wood tables that line the joint — give Paquime more personality than the usual counter-service restaurant.
The menu is pretty straight forward with all the typical Mexican fare you would expect at good prices. The food is made-to-order, so it does take a tad bit longer than fast food, but it is well worth the wait.
I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. While I was waiting, I hit up the condiment bar. I’d call it a small appetizer bar versus a condiment bar — pickled carrots, pickled cucumbers and radishes were a delicious snack as I waited for my burrito. There are many choices of salsa and sauces and my favorite was the avocado-based sauce. It was incredible and I couldn’t wait to dunk my breakfast into it.
My breakfast burrito was a nice, hearty size stuffed with scrambled eggs, chorizo, potatoes and cheese in a flour tortilla. They definitely know what they are doing here! The authentic and fresh flavors poured out with each bite. The chorizo was a great choice and spiced my breakfast craving up just the right amount.
I held back on scarfing the whole thing down in one sitting and decided to save the other half for a mid-morning snack at work. Let’s just say that thing was demolished the minute I sat down at my desk. I couldn’t resist.
I can’t wait to go back and sample more options on the menu.
