ORO VALLEY, Ariz. — Firefighters said an 84-year-old Oro Valley man was
stung more than 2,000 times by bees from a hive behind his home.
Golder Ranch Fire Battalion Chief Will Seeley said the man was attacked
Wednesday by the hive, which was located in a shed.
A neighbor rushed to help him before firefighters and police arrived.
Doctors said the man sustained close to twice the lethal dose of bee venom.
According to authorities, police tried to use fire extinguishers to get the
bees away from the man before firefighters got him into their truck.
His condition was unknown Friday morning.
Neighbors said they had noticed an unusual amount of bees earlier that day.
The hive was removed.
Oro Valley is about 6 miles north of Tucson’s outskirts.
