Jury convicts 3 defendants in tax fraud case

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A federal jury has convicted two people from Wyoming and one from Arizona of charges of conspiracy to defraud the federal government.

The jury in Cheyenne late Thursday returned guilty verdicts against 56-year-old Joseph Ruben Hill and 58-year-old Lucille Kathleen Hill, both of Cheyenne, and 68-year-old Gloria Jean Reeder of Sedona, Arizona.

Joseph Hill also was convicted of obstruction of justice charges and Reeder was convicted of one charge of conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Prosecutors say the Hills operated a business called Creative Consulting Group which sold sham trusts they claimed would reduce purchasers’ tax liability.

Federal officials announced evidence over the three-week trial showed the Hills last filed a federal individual income tax return in 1994 while Reeder had not filed since 1985. The three face sentencing in August.
