In this photo by Vincent Thian, a Malaysian navy sailor stands guard on the bow of a corvette ship patrolling the seas off the island of Langkawi while watching for abandoned migrant boats. Thousands of Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis are believed to be adrift at sea after a regional crackdown on traffickers prompted captains and smugglers to abandon their boats. The navy will provide humanitarian assistance to migrants entering Malaysian waters and hand them over to the authorities on land. Malaysia and Indonesia agreed last week to provide the migrants with shelter for one year, but their future beyond then is uncertain.
