Man dead, officer wounded in Cottonwood shooting

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. (AP) — A Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy has been released from a hospital following an early morning shooting in Cottonwood that left a suspect dead.
Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dwayne D’Evelyn said Saturday afternoon the deputy was not shot but did suffer injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
D’Evelyn says the incident began around 4 a.m. with the deputy conducting a traffic stop in the Verde Villages.
The male suspect was found dead at the scene.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the shooting and will release further information.
D’Evelyn says the injured deputy’s name will not be released at this time.
