Arizona child welfare system working to recruit foster parents

TEMPE, Ariz. — Child safety officials are rolling out a resource website
and emergency resource center next month as they increase efforts to recruit and
retain foster parents.
Doug Nick with the Department of Child Safety said there has been a 50 percent increase over the past five years in the number of children looking for a home.
“There are approximately 17,000 children in Arizona who are in out-of-home care and need a family,” he said.
Nick said there is a good chance most children have a classmate who could use a permanent home.
DCS created a commission to come up with ways to recruit more eligible foster
parents and keep those who are already caring for children.
“We need more families, we need you, to open homes and hearts to kids who need a loving family and a safe environment,” Nick said.
