Faith in Humanity: Girl misses prom, brother remakes special night

With fancy clothing, delicious food and enough dancing to last a lifetime, prom is one of the most magical nights for a young high school student.
Olivia Pelley was all dressed and ready to go on April 25, the night of her junior prom, when she began feeling ill during pre-event photographs, according to the Huffington Post.
Pelley was rushed to the hospital in her prom gown after not being able to concentrate or stand on her own.
The 18-year-old student was born with spina bifida, a condition that eventually led to the failure of both her kidneys, according to her GoFundMe page. Olivia’s father, James, was able to save her life seven years ago with a kidney transplant, but doctors determined she will need another one very soon.
Olivia’s brother, Michael, was determined to turn his sister’s prom night memories from being sick in the hospital to one under the stars.
“I was determined to make it happen,” he said in an interview with ABC News. “I couldn’t let one of the greatest moments in my sister’s life turn into the most tragic.”
Michael, 22, was able to enlist the help of Olivia’s school, local businesses and community members and was met with an overwhelming response of support.
With the help of her brother and her community, Olivia was finally able to get the prom of her dreams on May 17 and was even voted prom queen.
“I love my brother for doing this, it really means a lot,” Olivia said in an interview with the Daily News. “I’ll remember this forever.”
