MIAMI (AP) — President Barack Obama is in South Florida to raise money for the Democratic Party for the 2016 presidential race.
Obama was attending two fundraisers Wednesday at the Miami homes of supporters who raised thousands of dollars to help re-elect him in 2012.
About 30 supporters contributed up to $33,400 apiece to attend the first event. It was billed as a round-table at the home of mortgage broker Joe Falk and was closed to news media coverage.
Obama was delivering formal remarks later at the home of developer Stephen Bittel and his wife, Sabine. About 60 people contributed up to $33,400 each to attend.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are seeking the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.
Before returning to Washington, Obama is scheduled to visit the National Hurricane Center, also in Miami, on Thursday for a briefing on hurricane season, which opens next week.
