ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece’s culture ministry says a millennia-old pottery vase in a southern museum has been damaged after a visitor who lost her balance tried to hold onto the exhibit and crashed down with it.
A ministry statement says the prehistoric, Minoan-era vase, which had been broken in antiquity and restored after excavation, is being repaired and should be back on display on Friday.
The accident occurred on May 23 at the Museum of Iraklio, on the island of Crete, and the visitor suffered a minor leg injury, the ministry said Wednesday.
It said that the accident damaged the section of the vase that had already been restored in the past.
