ANTIOCH, Calif. (AP) — Police say a gunman is holding two people hostage at a Northern California gas station.
Television news helicopters show officers with guns drawn surrounding an Arco gas station in the San Francisco suburb of Antioch.
Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando told reporters at a brief news conference that the situation began on Wednesday afternoon with a carjacking and a police pursuit. After the gunman crashed the car, he went inside the convenience store portion of the gas station and took two people hostage.
The chief is calling on the man to give up peacefully.
The California Highway Patrol has closed exits and onramps to a nearby highway.
