PHOENIX — Teachers in a Phoenix suburb may soon walk off the job after citing contract concerns.
Teachers in the Gilbert School District said a new clause requiring them to pay $2,500 if they leave in the middle of a contract was the final straw in a string of poor board decisions.
“It makes me feel like I don’t want to work for this district anymore,” first grade teacher Barbara Arroyo said.
Arroyo said the fee is intended to help the district find a replacement, but money doesn’t solve the problem.
“Seasoned teachers that have been here,” she said. “How long is it going to take for the district to recoup if you have all these teachers with all this wonderful experience walk out?”
