PHOENIX — An 18-year-old Chandler woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian, according to authorities.
Officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Blanca Hernandez is being held on suspicion of aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
Investigators believe she was impaired when she allegedly struck a man on Monday who had been celebrating his 55th birthday.
Authorities say the man remains in critical condition at a Scottsdale hospital and may need to have one of his arms amputated due to his injuries from the hit-and-run accident.
Sheriff’s officials say preliminary tests indicate Hernandez had a blood-alcohol content of 0.044 percent.
Detectives believe she was under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and other depressants.
It wasn’t immediately clear Tuesday if Hernandez has a lawyer yet.
