27-year-old man drowns in Tempe Town Lake

PHOENIX — A 27-year-old man drowned after he allegedly was swimming in Tempe Town Lake, Tempe police said.

Tempe police said they received multiple calls Sunday around 7:30 p.m. of a man who had entered the lake and began asking for help.

The Tempe Police Department and Tempe Fire Department were able to recover Michael Bzichaza from the lake, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Bzichaza appeared to be swimming by himself when he drowned, and that there are no immediate signs of foul play.
