Suspects face charges in connection with Quincy boy shooting

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — Members of the Crider family made their first appearances in Adams County court Tuesday to face charges in connection with the March 28 fatal shooting of 12-year-old Ray Humphrey Jr.
The Herald-Whig (http://bit.ly/1c4xJCh ) reports that Stefan K. Crider Jr. and his wife, Julia, were charged Tuesday with four counts of conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice. Stefan Crider III is charged with five counts of obstruction. The alleged gunman, Steson L. Crider, is still awaiting extradition from Arizona. He faces a first-degree murder charge in Adams County.
Authorities claim Stefan Crider Jr. and Julia Crider helped their sons, Stefan Crider III and Steson Crider, flee Illinois after the shooting by providing them with money and a vehicle. Stefan Crider III allegedly helped his sibling get rid of a gun in Missouri.
Security at Tuesday’s hearing had been increased after tense moments erupted between supporters of both the Humphreys and the Criders after last week’s court dates. Officers with the Illinois State Police, Adams County Sheriff’s Department and Quincy Police Department were on hand to maintain peace.
“It’s our intent to make sure everything is secure and safe,” Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer said outside the courthouse after the hearing. “Everybody has a right to be here, but they also have to respect a particular order of the judicial system.”
Fischer said anyone caught acting out at future hearings could be arrested or banned from the courthouse for future appearances.
The Crider family’s next court appearance will be on June 3.
