DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum wants voters in the leadoff caucus state of Iowa to look at his record as they think about 2016.

Speaking to more than 1,000 people gathered Saturday night at a state Republican Party dinner in Des Moines, the former Pennsylvania senator pointed to the deep bench of candidates considering a 2016 run. He says voters should look to his record on national security and social issues, such as welfare reform.

Santorum says voters can consider what candidates say, but should really look at what they’ve done. He also says the country must focus on job creation and reviving manufacturing and urges more aggressive efforts to fight terrorism abroad.

Santorum is among nearly a dozen 2016 hopefuls scheduled to speak Saturday night.
