Woman arrested after TVs hit with hatchet at Alaska store

May 11, 2015, 1:48 PM

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A woman smashed seven flat-screen TVs at a store in Alaska with a hatchet and later told police that people on the televisions were watching her, according to police and court documents obtained Monday.

Miranda Davison, 33, was arrested on a felony charge of criminal mischief following the vandalism Sunday at a Walmart in Juneau.

Assistant store manager Kerry Diggs said Davison entered the Walmart, went to the hardware department and grabbed a hatchet before damaging the TVs that were showing a continuous loop of Walmart commercials.

One witness told police he heard the sound of a breaking glass case and saw the woman using her arm to sweep several jar candles from a shelf, breaking them.

The woman was out the door in less than 15 minutes, Diggs said.

No one was injured in the incident, he said.

Officers found a woman matching the description of the suspect about a quarter-mile from the store, according to police Lt. David Campbell.

“There were multiple witnesses that identified her,” he said.

Damage to the televisions and other items was estimated at $6,180.

Davison was being held without bail at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and was scheduled for a court appearance later in the day. It was unclear if she had an attorney.
