Tempe police turn to community for funding of officers’ memorial

PHOENIX — The Tempe Police Department needs the public’s help to honor the city’s fallen officers.

City leaders want to build a proper memorial to honor its officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“We’re working together trying to raise enough money to build this memorial for our fallen firefighters as well as our fallen police officers and as well as our fallen canines that have all died in the line of duty,” Lt. Mike Pooley said.

The memorial has been in the works for a while, Pooley said, but the city does not have the funding to complete the project.

He said even the smallest donations from the public will go a long way to help honor those officers who died serving the community they love.

“This is going to be a symbol to the community to our officers and firefighters that they are doing a job well done,” he said.

If enough money is raised, the memorial will be built at Tempe Beach Park.
