PHOENIX — For Valley residents looking to purchase a new, furry family member, the month of May might be the perfect time.
Throughout the month, HALO Animal Rescue is offering Chihuahuas who are more than 1 year old for $50 or less.
Heather Allen, President and CEO of HALO Animal Rescue, said Chihuahuas currently make up 40 percent of the dogs in the shelter. She said the organization hopes this promotion will pair more dogs with a loving home.
“There are so many loving Chihuahuas in our care,” she said in a statement. “They are a very popular breed and we strive to bring attention to how many of them currently need families to call their own.”
There are three HALO adoption facilities across the Valley where the promotion is available: HALO’s main shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Metro Mall Adoption Center at 9617 N. Metro Parkway West and PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center at 2901 W. Agua Fria Freeway.
Allen said all Chihuahuas more than 1 year old will be available for these special prices. The adoption fees also cover the animals’ vaccinations, spay and neuter and microchip fees, according to HALO spokeswoman Erin Denmark.
“Sometimes a small dog is the perfect pet for someone, and we have so many great ones to choose from,” she said. “We know that by promoting these adoption specials, more dogs will find the homes they need.”
