Man lying in street run over, killed in suburban Phoenix

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A man lying in the middle of a street in Scottsdale was run over and killed early Monday morning, police said.
The 47-year-old man had been either asleep or passed out along Thomas Road near 81st Street when a couple in an SUV hit him, police said.
The driver and passenger said they didn’t see him until it was too late. They called 911 immediately.
Police were unsure why the man was already in the road.
The victim’s bike and backpack were found on a sidewalk.
Thomas Road was closed between Granite Reef and Hayden roads while police investigated.
