PHOENIX — A 74-year-old woman has been taken to a hospital after falling approximately 20 feet off a hiking trail in Scottsdale, Arizona, Sunday morning.
Scottsdale Fire Capt. Danny Ables said the woman was with her two daughters on the Sunrise Trail near 136th Street and Via Linda when she fell around 9 a.m. Scottsdale and Phoenix fire crews responded to the scene.
Ables said that fire crews decided to perform a hoist operation using a helicopter due to the type of terrain and the nature of the woman’s injuries.
The mother was extracted off the mountain and treated by Scottsdale Fire Department paramedics on her way to a nearby hospital.
The fire captain did not report the woman’s condition or what caused her to fall.
Ables said Scottsdale Fire recommends that hikers always bring a cellphone and someone to hike with — or to tell someone where they’re hiking and what time they expect to return.
