Ever feel cranky on the drive home from work? Whether it’s caused by the general stress of the day, rush hour traffic or the duties waiting at home, psychologists say you are not alone.

“Boundary work,” a term coined by psychologists, refers to the routines and rituals we fall into to create mental space between leaving work and arriving home, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Creating small “boundary work” practices could help you transition positively from work to home. Routine changes such as stopping for coffee or hitting the gym before heading home could help boost your mood.

Gregory Kraus, a New York City pediatrician, said his way of winding down after a long day of work and caring for his 4-year-old daughter is sifting through celebrity gossip sites.

“I’m embarrassed to say that I watch celebrity gossip apps on my phone,” Kraus said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

In order to rid yourself of the after-work blues, pay attention to any negative feelings and get to the root of the cause.

“Figure out what triggers negative thoughts and feelings at each stage and either eliminate the triggers or develop new routines and rituals to get around them,” The Wall Street Journal suggested.
