Arizona’s Child Protective Services department has become a source of national embarrassment for the state, but Gov. Jan Brewer may have taken a big step toward repairing the damage.
Brewer signed legislation giving the OK to almost $7 million in CPS in funding — enough to hire 192 workers, according to the Associated Press. Additionally, almost all of the 6,600 child abuse and neglect reports that had intentionally not been investigated have now been seen.
All of this comes after Brewer pulled CPS from its parent agency last month, turning it into a stand-alone department that reports to her.
