Paul Penzone: Joe Arpaio isn’t the same sheriff

Retired Phoenix Police Officer Paul Penzone said that Sheriff Joe Arpaio isn’t the same sheriff that was elected 20 years ago.
Penzone, who is running against Arpaio for Maricopa County Sheriff, said his interest is no longer on what’s best for the community.
Penzone isn’t looking to highlight on Arpaio’s failures, but what he’s done in the community.
“The number one most important thing is that you don’t want to chose the person because they are not the other one,” said Penzone on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR’s Mac & Gaydos. “You want to chose the person because they are the right one.”
Arpaio is known around the United States and has a lot of support outside of Arizona.
“Eventually all champs go down,” Penzone said.
Penzone said that the Valley has been exposed due to a long-time narrow focus from Arpaio.
“You need to know what is going on on the street,” he said. “You have to be connected and you also need to know how to be effective and efficient because safety can never go to sleep.”
Penzone said that there comes a time when you realize a person isn’t doing their job effectively.
“We are in a gridlock,” he said. “We have to get out of it and move forward.”
