Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor brought joy to a young photographer’s final days of life.
Andrew Youssef is a photojournalist who, for the past seven years, has captured some of hard rock’s heavyset moments on camera. Unfortunately, he spent nearly half of that time battling stage 4 colon cancer, reports Consequence of Sound.
Youssef bought tickets to see Nine Inch Nails in concert, but decided to back out after getting the news from his doctors that he only has between a few weeks and months to live.
Reznor got wind of Youssef’s story and the two developed a strong friendship. When the singer heard his new pal couldn’t make it to Saturday’s show in Las Vegas, he went above and beyond to make sure Youssef still got a VIP experience.
During the set, Reznor took out his phone and FaceTime’d with his ailing friend. The crowd erupted while chanting “Andrew! Andrew!” The band then dedicated the song “In This Twilight” to Youssef.
The song’s lyrics read:
“The sky is filled with light. Can you see it? All the black is really white, if you believe it. As your time is running out let me take away your doubt. You can find a better a place in this twilight.”
