Just about everyone loves chocolate and, personally, I’m a little suspicious of anyone who says they don’t.
That aside, we would all love to hear that chocolate is actually good for you. For several years now, we’ve heard that dark chocolate has antioxidants that are beneficial and that a small square is not a bad thing. But honestly, who can stop at just one square?
Now, it looks like chocolate is getting another ringing endorsement. Studies show that drinking (fat free) chocolate milk after a workout or strenuous activity replenishes your body better than carbohydrate drinks like Gatorade.
Keep in mind here that they said “post workout” and “strenuous activity,” So it’s not that just downing a glass of chocolate milk every day is a health regimen, though there is calcium and vitamin D involved.
But why chocolate milk? For the answer I went to an expert, Scott Keppel who owns Scott’s Training Systems in Chandler. Listen to what he has to say about it to the right.
The only drawbacks are that it needs to stay cold and some people may not tolerate milk. Soy milk apparently works just as well if you like the taste of that.
I knew it all along: Chocolate IS a health food! Every woman knows that it can lift your spirits, so it’s a natural antidepressant. And now, bottoms up in the car on the way home from the gym.
Just be sure you put in your sweat time first!!
