Is the FCC poised to become the Thought Police?

There is no doubt that almost all news outlets, whether on network or cable stations, are agenda-driven. No matter what side of the aisle you are on, there is a voice in the world of television news for you.
Is it fair? Should news outlets offer more than simply reporting the news? It doesn’t matter. As I constantly tell my two sons, life isn’t fair. This is America.
Now we are learning that our federal government, via the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), wants to serve as the “Thought Police.” FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai indicated that the FCC “plans to ask station managers, news directors, journalists, television anchors and on-air reporters to tell the government about their ‘news philosophy’ and how the station ensures that the community gets critical information.”
That’s just great. The new Thought Police want to now decide which news outlets are playing fair. They want to sit in newsrooms, interview reporters and sift through content, all in the name of fairness. The thought that the FCC thinks they have the time and money to do this is simply appalling.
I understand you may not like all the views and opinions of the myriad of news outlets, including those here at KTAR, but allowing the FCC into our stations would create a different type of America. An America none of us would like.
How do they truly intend to control the thoughts and opinions of thousands and thousands of reporters anyway? Heck, I can’t even control the thoughts and opinions of my children. My 4-year-old’s favorite football team is the Seahawks.
Stay out of our lives and stay out of our newsrooms.
