What’s it like to grow up with a parent who has ALS?

When you see the name Lou Gehrig, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? His 17 years as a New York Yankee? His .340 career batting average? Probably not.

His name will always be primarily associated with the disease that bears it… amyotrophic lateral sclerosis…” Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” Many know more about the baseball player than the condition that killed him in 1941.

Even less is understood about the effects on the family of the person who has ALS. We had to go no further than the executive offices of KTAR to get an answer to the question, “What’s it like to grow up with a parent who has ALS?”
