This Sunday I will be celebrating the lives and gifts of the many moms in my life.
Certainly, the mother of my children who gave them qualities of character and the value and pleasure of hard work. My, wife, Duffy, who rejected titles, like, step-mother, or any kind of mother and allowed them to embrace the concept of being loved, unconditionally, by a trusted friend.
My daughter is a mom now, and doing it splendidly, the beneficiary being my 14-year-old granddaughter.
My mother would be so proud of all of them and why not?
There’s a bit of her in each of them. She had an unusual name, Adelaide… I never knew another one until I saw “guys & dolls” for the first time. But you know…if she had been named something like Mary, she would still have been memorable to everyone who met her. Because she was saintly, gentle and demure?
Absolutely not! She was bombastic, bigger than life and the funniest person I’ve ever known.
