Pop goes Bloomberg

Hey, everybody!
It’s August, a brand new month and I think all New Yorkers should celebrate by toasting each other with a double liter-sized Slurpee. People in that city have every reason to feel they can take a “big gulp” of freedom because Tuesday the court of appeals held up an earlier ruling that the city of New York, that is Mayor Michael Bloomberg, “overstepped the boundaries of its lawfully delegated authority when it promulgated the ban to curtail the consumption of soda drinks.”
In other words, it’s unconstitutional to prohibit retailers from selling large, sugary soft drinks.
Did this one really have to go to the courts? Mr. Mayor, what are you thinking? Are you trying to show up the other big political celebrity across the river — Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey?
Sure, obesity is a major problem in America, but your city hall protestations won’t solve the problem. Soda now or booze back in the ’20s — it’s still prohibition. If you want real progress, ban all the fathead ideas that politicians come up with.
I’m Pat McMahon.
