Wow! A million passengers on a train in Phoenix.
Yep! The one millionth Sky Train rider was counted on Monday and while it’s a fairly short route, from 44th Street and Washington to Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor, hey it’s a transportation success. So is light rail in the Valley, which is now being expanded north and west from 19th Avenue and in Mesa, through downtown.
But Saturday night, I booked a different kind of transit vehicle. It was a time machine from the 60’s and a wonderful ride for all.
I have always avoided those “oldies but goodies” all-star package shows, because I just didn’t want to see performers from another era trying to relive the glory years while they were singing their hits with the aid of a walker.
But Saturday night at the Talking Stick resort, a group of major recording stars proved to a huge ballroom audience that rock and roll is here to stay!
Gary Lewis & The Playboys, Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere & The Raiders, Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night, Gary Puckett and The Turtles proved for two hours that good clean, fun, pop music has a life span of forever.
I’m Pat McMahon.
