I must confess a personal prejudice. I’ve always had this aversion to people who profit from other’s efforts or good fortune without lifting a finger themselves.
It doesn’t have to be dishonest gain. I suppose I’ve just seen more harm than good out of those situations in which children inherited a fortune after making no contribution themselves — or the negatives that follow some of those frivolous lawsuits.
Now, you may be saying, I’m just peeved because I was never the one who got a check. That may be, but right now just allow me to be annoyed at a guy named Joshua Lahti. He’s about to be awarded around $40 million for — absolutely nothing.
His estranged wife Holly, with whom he hasn’t lived for years, is that Idaho Powerball winner. She raised two girls and worked in a bank. He spent his time being arrested — for DUI, drug possession, second-degree kidnapping, domestic abuse. Doesn’t sound like a guy who deserves half of her good luck, does it? But, Idaho says if they’re not divorced, they split everything. I can only hope after the big payoff they do divorce — and then he gets taken by some gold digger.
