Sports Illustrated to feature Barbie on cover of Swimsuit Issue

Feb 12, 2014, 10:57 PM | Updated: 10:57 pm

As someone whose previous life was in publishing, I just cannot get my mind around the WHY of mixing two iconic, but very disparate, pop culture icons that’s coming together next week.

Sports Illustrated, whether you’re a fan or not, has issued sleek, skinny, super models in skimpy swimsuits in the middle of winter much to the delight of men and women for years.

But a Barbie doll on this year’s issue? What is SI thinking? This is like mixing ice cream and ketchup.

Separate, they’re great! But together? I don’t get it.
