With the holidays approaching, many families in Phoenix are still wondering where the next meal will come from.

#HashtagLunchbag is a humanity service movement dedicated to creating fun environments to bring together diverse groups of compassionate people across the world who want to give back in local communities. They are trying to use social media to bring awareness and eliminate hunger in local communities.

“HTLB is was a way we could all come together and share our individual successes with the community,” Phoenix DJ Ramses Ja said. “Each of our lives had been affected by homelessness in some way or another and this is where we wanted to start making a difference, in the lives of people who were at their lowest point. We have all been there and we have had people support us while allowing us our dignity. Now it’s our turn.”

Ja has a history of helping people in Phoenix, including a mother and daughter he found digging through the trash earlier this year.

#Hashtaglunchbag Phoenix assembles on the fourth Sunday of every month at Sky Lounge in downtown Phoenix. A popular DJ supplies music and kids can play games.

Volunteers help with bag design, making sandwiches, packing up the bags and writing notes to be included in the lunch bags.

When they’re finished, the bags, water and other supplies are distributed to people in need around 12th Avenue and Washington Street and also Margaret T. Hance Park.
