Happy days are here, but based on what?

Happy days are here again!
Well, at least if you believe the latest polling data that has President Obama getting credit for “turning the economy around”.
How crazy is it to give credit (or blame for that matter) to the direction of a wildly complex system like the U.S. economy to one person?
Better yet, how crazy is it to base your decision to vote for or against someone based on those same “feelings?”
Like many of you, my definition of “The Economy” has everything to do with my personal situation and very little to do with other peoples financial state. Am I to believe that the vast majority of American’s vacillate between support and condemnation of the President based on how much money they have in the bank this week or the price of a gallon of gas?
Still, we see The President’s approval ratings jump up and down based on these and other such arbitrary factors like the unemployment rate, a number specifically designed to be so confusing as to prevent anyone from fully understanding it.
Color me frustrated as I resign myself to the painful reality that the next President of the United States may very well be decided by the amount and intensity of the season’s hurricanes or China’s monetary policy.
Happy days are here again?
