“He was one in a million…like the Muhammad Ali of comedy,” Jimmy Fallon, host of “The Tonight Show,” told his completely silent studio audience through choked-back tears Tuesday night.
He then tossed to Robin Williams’ first-ever appearance on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” before standing on his desk and reciting a famous line from “Dead Poets Society.”
On “Conan,” host Conan O’Brien paid tribute to Williams with an anecdote, revealing a very personal time when the actor-comedian gave him a gift to help him through his tumultuous time at NBC, which left him temporarily unemployed.
O’Brien, an avid bicyclist, received a bike from Williams that “looked like a Mardi Gras parade,” according to sidekick Andy Richter.
“So often I would just, you know, look at that silly bike and think, ‘What a wonderful spirit, what an amazing spirit,'” O’Brien said.
