Give this clever marketing campaign two paws up.
The made-for-TV movie “Sharknado 2: The Second One” premiered Wednesday night on SyFy, and the ASPCA jumped on the cheesy, low-grade bandwagon.
According to the NY Daily News:
“When we heard [Syfy] was going to make a sequel last year, one day I just blurted out, ‘Oh my God, Barknado!’ and everybody had this incredibly positive reaction and said, ‘Yes, we have to do this,'” laugh[ed] Alison Jimenez, the ASPCA director of media and communication.
Made like a movie trailer, the 60-second ad has a booming voiceover and ominous music as it follows a (poorly animated) tornado as it sucks up dogs from streets all over the country and then drops them at the front door of their new homes.
Oh, and the tagline?
“The only way to stop it, is to adopt it.”
Brilliant.
