Silent Witness

Fred Flinstone may be the key to solving this crime.

It happened just before New Year’s Eve, on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at about 5 p.m.

“Two suspects went into the busy Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Darren Burch. “One of the men went inside the Capri Jewelers while the other stood outside the store acting as lookout.”

The suspect inside the jewelry store showed the employee a gun and said he wanted the chain and pendant the worker was holding. Then he grabbed it from the employee’s hands and took off.

The pendant is a multi-colored, diamond-encrusted Fred Flinstone. Police believe the custom-made Flinstone pendant will be the key to solving this crime.

Our next case takes us to the WalMart and 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road on Sept. 17, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.

The suspect was inside the store. A clerk behind the customer service desk was handling a bank bag.

“The suspect walked up to the customer service desk and asked to use the phone,” Burch said. “We think that might have been a ploy to divert her attention because he then grabbed the bank bag from her hands and ran out of the store.”

Investigators said it may have been a crime of opportunity. The suspect may have been in the store legitimately and saw a chance for some quick cash.
