Phoenix police searching for suspect in 2013 fatal hit-and-run

Apr 23, 2018, 5:00 AM | Updated: 5:53 am

Police need your help solving the hit-and-run death of Brian Chase.

“He was a really nice kid,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Darren Burch said.

“Everyone that we’ve talked to, including his mom and dad, say that he always had a smile on his face. He was a local resident and had just recently started riding a motorcycle. It was something he always wanted to do.”

Brian was killed while driving west on Camelback Road at 46th Avenue. It was Thursday, May 9, 2013, about 7 p.m.

Burch believes there are three key clues that may help solve this case.

“First, we have a description of the vehicle. It’s a white Chevy or Ford extended cab pick-up. Next, we have a description of the driver which is very rare in these types of cases.

He’s white, in his 50s, about 6-feet-tall with a heavy-set build and dirty blond, thinning hair.

Finally, we know the suspect was pulling out of the Discount Cab dispatch center parking lot. The suspect must have some connection to that location.”

Our next case proves you can never be too careful. Even if you live in a gated community with surveillance cameras, you need to lock your car.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, just before 5:30 a.m., this suspect jumped the wall into a gated apartment complex near 16th Avenue and Buckeye and went on a treasure hunt. Surveillance video shows he found two unlocked cars.

“Once he got into the cars, he was also able to access the trunks and steal stuff from there as well,” said Burch.

The guy bagged up his goodies then hopped back over the wall and walked away.
