PHOENIX — This isn’t your typical “Silent Witness” case, but most stolen vehicles aren’t classic trucks with greater pictures of the thief, thanks to a red light camera.

“It’s a very unique vehicle, it’s a 1968 Ford pickup, light blue,” said Phoenix Police Detective Icela Brown. “I go to these car shows Friday and Saturday nights and that’s the kind of vehicle you see sold.

“Sometimes, people think, `Oh, who’s going to steal this old car? Well, old cars are classic. People like to steal them, fix them up and show them off.”

The pickup was stolen sometime overnight on Friday, March 9, 2007, from the driveway of a home near 35th Avenue and Dunlap.

“The vehicle was later photographed by a red light camera, at 12:27 in the morning at the intersection of 27th Avenue and Glendale, and the vehicle was going eastbound,” Brown said.

She said investigators could not have asked for a better picture of the guy who stole the truck — something that just makes the case more frustrating.

“It’s frustrating when it has been some time and we still haven’t been able to arrest him. With such a great photo, with such a unique vehicle description, somebody’s got to recognize this guy.”
