PHOENIX – A 28-year-old woman woke up early to take the trash on Saturday, July 24, 2010.
That meant a trek out of her apartment, near 12th Street and Peoria, to the dumpster.
Phoenix Police Sergeant Darren Burch described what happened next, at about 4:30 a.m.:
“And she saw her neighbor, who she doesn’t know, but he waved at her and had that morning greeting,” Burch said. “And out of nowhere when she was coming back he grabbed her, forced her into his apartment, and sexually assaulted her.”
Burch said the woman finally managed to escape.
“She called police,” Burch said. “They responded, but the suspect had already abandoned his apartment as well as his work site.”
That didn’t stop police from finding out who he was.
“Luckily the officers got a good picture of the suspect,” Burch said. “They have a name…Gonzalo Robles Gutierrez.”
“But they’re not sure if this is really his real name or not,” Burch said.
Gutierrez is about 34 years old, stands 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds.
Burch says this suspected rapist could be anywhere right now.
“He’s going to be transient in nature,” Burch said. “He doesn’t have a problem with leaving things behind, so that’s a very scary individual.”
