PHOENIX – Scottsdale police need help finding a serial purse snatcher targeting elderly women.
“Scottsdale police believe it is, based on both the suspect description, as well as vitcimology,” said Phoenix Police Sergeant Darren Burch. All the victims range from 50 to 75 years of age.
He says the most recent incident happened near Thomas Road and 60th Street on Sept. 30. An elderly woman had just returned home from grocery shopping and was taking her food inside. That is when a large man attacked her.
“He hit her on the head with such force that she had to go to the hospital and she may sustain permanent eye damage,” said Burch.
30 minutes later, a guy used her credit cards at a convenience store near 32nd Street and Roosevelt. He drove away in an older white or cream colored four-door sedan, possibly a Cadillac.
“Between June, 2009 and his most recent purse snatch on Sept., 30 there have been a total of four,” said Burch. “The other three also involved a black male suspect between 20 and 25 years of age. [He is] over six feet tall, medium to heavy build.”
