PHOENIX – Alicia Nevarez misses her husband Luis. They were married for 15 years and had five children together.
He was the love of her life.
Luis adored his children and loved nothing more than hanging out with them. He also loved his job as a plumber. He was a huge Cardinals fan and got to see them go to the Super Bowl before his life abruptly ended.
“He passed away being a Cardinals fan because he had his Cardinals jersey on that night,” Alicia Nevarez said.
Phoenix Police said on March 7th, around 12:15 a.m., Luis Nevarez and his daughter’s boyfriend, Michael Ortiz, were leaving a restaurant near Thomas Road and 35th Avenue.
Officers said for some unknown reason Nevarez and Ortiz were arguing as they were leaving the restaurant.
Two additional men became engaged in the argument and it quickly became physical.
Ortiz hit one of the men and in return, that man pulled a gun and shot and killed him.
Nevarez attempted to run from the area to protect himself but one of the suspects chased him down and shot him, killing him.
“He’s the one that was the one that was our rock,” said Alicia Nevarez. “It’s been really difficult without him and as each day passes by it’s just harder and harder.”
