PHOENIX – As summer drags on, the mercury keeps rising on temperatures gauges all over metro Phoenix. Tuesday marked 42 out of the past 43 days of 100 degrees or hotter, and it is the worst yet.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix predicted it could reach 115 degrees, which happened at 2 p.m. An excessive heat warning was put in place Monday — the second in less than 10 days — and will be put into effect until 8 p.m.

Weather forecasters weren’t expecting the record of 122 degrees, set June 26, 1990, to fall. Thanks!

Tuesday, July 16, 2:30 p.m.

Hello, hottest day of the year. NWS Phoenix tweeted that the Valley reached 115 degrees at 2 p.m. and it could get hotter.

1 p.m.

Who’s going to lunch? You’re stepping out into 112 degrees. Blech.

12:30 p.m.

It’s in the neighborhood of 110 degrees. Lucky Flagstaff is sipping lemonade at 83 degrees.

11:10 a.m.

The heat didn’t listen. The official gauge reads 105 degrees, humidity at 12%.

10:30 a.m.

Good news, bad news: Honestly, there is no good news – sorry. The weather service’s official gauge at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport recorded 102 degrees shortly before 10 a.m. Which means it’s probably already hotter by now.

Commuters leaving their homes before 6 a.m. could probably feel it was 90 degrees. Three hours later the temperature was 97 degrees.

On this day last year, the temperature topped out at 103 degrees.

Stop outdoing yourself, heat.

We want to hear from you.
