PHOENIX — Police said a woman was arrested this week after they found six dead dogs and nine malnourished dogs in her Phoenix home.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Ashley Ohrn said officers noticed a strange odor coming from the house near 31st Avenue and Roosevelt Street while on patrol Sunday around 10:45 p.m.
Police knocked on the door and when there was no answer they looked through a window, finding many dogs inside and at least one that looked dead, Ohrn said.
While officers were on scene, Blanche Lopez, 61, returned home and allowed the officers in, who found the 15 dogs.
Lopez was booked into jail on 15 counts of cruelty to animals.
The surviving dogs were seized by the Arizona Humane Society and were treated at a trauma animal hospital.
