PHOENIX — A 16-acre wildfire in northern Arizona was fully contained Sunday, four days after it first sparked at a popular recreation site on the outskirts of Prescott.

Prescott National Forest officials said in a tweet that the Lynx Fire was 100% contained.

Firefighters worked Sunday to extinguish any hot spots and start mopping up.

The majority of the lake is now open to the public, but the east side will remain closed until further notice.

The fire was first reported Thursday east of the boat ramp on the lake’s south shore.

The statement said it was human caused and is now under investigation.

A separate 420-acre wildfire, appropriately called the Forest Fire, in north-central Arizona is about 30 percent contained as of Sunday night.

Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management spokeswoman Tiffany Davila told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the fire west of Wittmann, Arizona, sparked Sunday and was expected to be further contained Monday.

Dozens of firefighters and a DC-10 air tanker contained the fire Sunday before it burned down homes, but two “outbuilding type” structures were lost.

With three fires in the area in the last three weeks, Davila advised campers to use caution and not burn on windy days to prevent more wildfires.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jim Cross contributed to this report.
