ASU president Crow makes Fortune’s list for world’s greatest leaders

PHOENIX — Arizona State University president Michael Crow is in the same league as royalty, CEOs and a first lady.
Crow was named one of Fortune’s 50 greatest world leaders who “are transforming the world and inspiring others to do the same,” coming in at No. 44.
He was the only collegiate president to make the list.

He “has spent 17 years reinventing ‘party school’ ASU as a higher-ed innovator, adding satellite campuses, online degrees, and partnerships to educate Starbucks employees and Uber drivers,” according to Fortune.
Fortune added that ASU’s enrollment of 98,000 — nearly double of what it was when Crow started in 2002 — is more economically and racially diverse. The magazine also noted 52% of ASU students graduate in four years, up from 28% in 2002.
Bill and Melinda Gates were named co-greatest leaders of the world. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Tencent founder and CEO Pony Ma and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella rounded out the top five, respectively.
