PHOENIX – A Phoenix-area high school student faces legal ramifications for falsely reporting that she had an inappropriate relationship with a teacher, authorities said Thursday.

In February, the Peoria Police Department opened an investigation into allegations made by a 14-year-old girl about a teacher at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale.

“After extensive investigation, it was determined there was not a single piece of evidence to support the teen’s claims of a relationship with her teacher,” police said in a press release.

The release said charges of false reporting were submitted for review to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

The girl said she’d been in an intimate relationship with the teacher since the fall of 2018. She also said he’d stalked her for months with text messages, emails and phone calls.

When the allegations were made, the Deer Valley Unified School District placed the teacher on an approved leave of absence.

The district did not immediately provide information about the teacher’s status after Thursday’s announcement.

Parents were sent a letter describing the findings of the investigation.
